Many of us, who are not from a psychology and its related fields background, might have seen or read about mental health, be it on social media, movies, articles or any other platform. However, what exactly is mental health?
Mental health is a broad term which encompasses an individual’s psychological and emotional well-being. It tells us about how people feel, think, behave and the reasons behind it.
But, is it really that important?
And the answer is a big YES!
Mental health is as important as physical health, but is not given the due importance it deserves, which can be seen in the rising numbers of mental disorders in people in today’s time. Even though in recent times mental health has started getting the recognition it should’ve years ago, it still is far from the required level. The modern lifestyle is extremely fast paced, which puts huge amounts of stress on our minds, and if we do not deal with it appropriately, we may face mental health issues later on.
A study by Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation estimates that 792 million people lived with a mental health disorder in 2017, that is almost 1 in every 10 people. And since then the numbers have just risen. Depression, a mood disorder which affects the life of the individual adversely, is a serious problem globally. 264 million people are affected by this disorder world wide. Bipolar disorder, another mood disorder, affects 45 million people worldwide. Dementia, usually found in old people, is a syndrome in which there is deterioration in the mental functioning of the individual beyond a normal level. 50 million people have dementia globally.
As one can see, mental disorders are very much prevalent in the society, and there needs to be a sense of urgency in giving mental health the due importance and priority it deserves. Prioritising your mental health and wellbeing will allow you to function more effectively and easily, and will also protect you from mental health issues which you may face, owing to today’s hustle culture and high pressure jobs. And this is where Mind Unwynd comes in.
Mind Unwynd is a young startup, which aims at making mental healthcare easy and accessible to all. We often need someone to hear our thoughts and receive emotional and mental support, but when we look around, we don’t find a single ear to our hurricane of thoughts and emotions. We fear that others might judge us for thinking what we think and feeling what we feel, however that should not be the case. Everything we think and feel is valid as long as it does not harm others.
Mind Unwynd provides a platform for everyone in need of professional healthcare practitioners, who will listen to your problems and cater to them appropriately, and help you in becoming self-sufficient and independent, able enough to deal with routine stressful situations on your own, and provide holistic and genuine well-being and growth. Our mental health professionals will help you in reaching your full potential, be it in your personal or your professional life.
Mind Unwynd is a safe space where you can let your emotions and thoughts flow out, and receive positivity, care and love, which you deserve.
