I can say that i didnt know how much i would feel in sync to this profession when i first started training and educating myself in it in my undergraduate days. Coming from a dysfunctional family system, and being a student of Counselling, it became a survival and academic need for me to understand and explore my self, my patterns and others around me and how i could manage it all better. I guess that process started early for me and still continues.
I have an eclectic approach, which basically means that i use techniques and concepts from multiple psychotherapy approaches and modalities, based on the clients state of mind, their level of self awareness and goals that we collaboratively establish in the therapeutic space. That being said, I essentially practice a client centered approach where i strongly believe that the client coming for counselling has agency and is capable of helping themselves and I am a facilitator in their growth process.
Among many learnings that i have had, one of the most important one that i can list here is that, as a Counsellor sitting in front of the Counsellee, no matter what issue they may be first claiming to come into the sessions with, u dont get to assume or generalize their experience of it. Ask questions and get as much clarity as you can before you start to even think about how to help them navigate through their own life stories. Actively and empathetically listening to your clients can sometimes be all the therapy the person in front of you needs.
One in which they feel free to offload heir thoughts, concerns, feelings, everything without any hesitation or inhibition. I know that if the client in front of me is worrying about what i might be thinking about their sharings, then i have failed to do my job as an effective Counsellor. This much i know.

• You don’t have to wait until it’s all coming crashing down on you before you ask for help. We all tend to stall and test ourselves until we reach a rock bottom before we can speak to someone about it.
